BEASTS & BOULDERS TROPHY 2019

@ Klimkaffee Mechelen

KlimKaffee wanted to organise a top-of-the-bill competition with an international appearance. After careful consideration and deliberation, we decided to ‘pimp’ our monthly Beats and Boulders to the ‘Beasts and Boulders Trophy’.  Besides the royal prize money – amounting to 5.000 EUR & donated by Klimkaffee, Red Chili, Agrippe, Edelrid, X-Cult, Chimpanzee – we still considered something was lacking…

That is why we sought to make the difference in terms of open-gym competitions. A stage to outshine Tomorrowland, a world-renowned MC, life dj-sets, it would all have been possible. However, an even better opportunity in the world of boulder gyms revealed itself: a visit of the IFSC head route setter Jacky Godoffe. Jacky is a true Fontainebleau legend, ex-coach of the French national team, the IFSC’s head route setter, designer of the original speed climbing route, and so much more. We believe it will take ages before a man of his grandeur will visit again.

JACKY GODOFFE

The week preceding his visit, KlimKaffee will be closed off to the public to prepare for the competition and make the place spotless. During this time, Jacky will give a five-day course for Belgian’s best route setters; their routes will be used in the Beast and Boulders Trophy competition. We believe this unique opportunity will encourage the route setters to create next level routes that will blow us away.
